Founder of The Embodied Regulation Method™
For as long as she can remember, Crystal Weran has been fascinated by the relationship between movement, awareness, and the body's remarkable capacity to restore balance.
Long before beginning her professional career in wellness, movement was already a central part of her life. With more than 35 years of experience in embodied movement practices—including dance, fitness, yoga, and aerial arts—she developed a deep appreciation for the ways the body communicates beyond words. That lifelong curiosity eventually became the foundation for her professional work as a Registered Massage Therapist and 1000-hour Somatic Yoga Therapist.
Interestingly, Crystal's path into healthcare was anything but conventional.
Her first career was as an Architectural Technologist, where she spent years designing spaces while spending long hours seated behind a computer. Although intellectually rewarding, the work gradually came at a cost. Like many professionals working in sedentary environments, her body began to speak in ways that could no longer be ignored. She developed venous insufficiency in her greater saphenous veins, experienced the early signs of carpal tunnel syndrome, and felt increasingly disconnected from the vitality she once knew.
Those physical challenges became an invitation to ask a different question.
Rather than asking, "How do I fix my body?" she began asking, "What is my body trying to tell me?"
That simple shift changed everything.
Through movement, breath, therapeutic touch, and learning to listen rather than override the messages of her body, Crystal experienced firsthand how awareness can transform our relationship with stress, pain, and the nervous system. She discovered that healing is not always about doing more.
Sometimes it begins by becoming more present.
That realization eventually inspired a complete career change and a lifelong commitment to studying the body through both Western and Eastern perspectives.
Today, Crystal integrates massage therapy, somatic yoga therapy, craniosacral principles, breathwork, mindful movement, therapeutic sound, neuro-effective touch, Thai massage influences, marma therapy, and nervous system-informed practices into a compassionate, client-centred approach. Rather than viewing these disciplines as separate techniques, she believes they are complementary languages that all point toward the same goal: helping people reconnect with themselves.
This philosophy ultimately became the inspiration for The Embodied Regulation Method™.
Over a two-year period of observation, refinement, and case study, Crystal developed and tested what would become a structured, fully clothed, table-based experience designed to support nervous system regulation through presence, interoception, intentional touch, breath, sound, and movement. The result is a repeatable framework that practitioners can confidently integrate into their own practices while honouring their existing scope of practice.
At the heart of the Embodied Regulation Method™ is a simple but powerful belief:
Regulation cannot be forced. It can only be invited.
The method does not seek to "fix" clients or direct their healing journey. Instead, it teaches practitioners how to create conditions that foster safety, curiosity, awareness, and connection—conditions that allow the nervous system to respond in its own time and in its own way.
Crystal believes that this approach is especially relevant today. As increasing numbers of individuals navigate chronic stress, anxiety, overwhelm, trauma, and nervous system dysregulation, bodyworkers are uniquely positioned to offer experiences that help clients reconnect with their own internal resources. The Embodied Regulation Method™ was created to give practitioners a practical, evidence-informed, and compassionate framework for doing exactly that.
When she isn't teaching or working with clients, Crystal continues to explore movement as both an art and a lifelong practice. Whether through dance, yoga, or quiet moments of embodied awareness, she remains committed to the same principle that first inspired her career transformation: the body is constantly communicating, and when we learn to listen with curiosity rather than judgment, profound change becomes possible.
Crystal lives and practices in Red Deer, Alberta, where she is the founder of Somatic Temple and the creator of the Embodied Regulation Method™.
